DRUG TESTS NEEDED NOW!

San Francisco, CA- After failing to drop his long-time rival at all in their three previous encounters, Juan Manuel Marquez knocked Manny Pacquiao down twice this past December, the second knockdown rendering the Filipino icon unconscious and securing the Mexican legend his first official victory in their four-fight rivalry.

FIRST PACQUIAO & NOW MARQUEZ “STEROID SUSPECTS”

Although both men have had numerous accusations of PED (performance enhancing drugs) usage thrown their way, you will not find an argument here that the sole reason for Marquez’ victory was steroids.  The perfectly timed punch that Pacquiao literally jumped into may very well have had the same effect on Superman or the Incredible Hulk, steroids or not.  Marquez entered the ring at MGM Grand in Las Vegas that night with a plan to catch his aggressive foe coming in and he executed it perfectly.

START WITH THE WORDS OF A STEROID WISE GUY

Just prior to the third meeting in November of 2011, it was learned that Marquez was utilizing the services of Angel “Memo” Heredia, a man who was able to avoid prosecution after confessing to distributing steroids to multiple athletes and revealingIn a 2009 German documentary (of which a preview can be found here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0GbnVdWaIU)  Memo insinuates that doping is here in sports today and it is here to stay.

SOME OF MEMO’S JUICY STEROID COMMENTS

“Peak performances without doping are a fairytale my friend.”  On current drug testing in sports: “What’s happening now is laughable.  It’s a token (move).  They should save their money or give it to me.  There will be doping for as long as there is commercial sports, performance-related shoe contracts, and television.”

MEMO ON LEGALIZING DRUGS IN SPORTS

“I believe we should authorize the use of EPO, IGF, and Testosterone, as well as Adrenaline and Epitestosterone, substances that the body produces itself, simply for pragmatic reasons.  Because it is impossible to detect them, and also because of the fairness aspect.”

MILLION DOLLAR QUESTIONS & ANSWERS FROM GUY THAT KNOW STEROIDS

So the questions have to be asked: Does “Memo” still believe everything he said here or has his mind changed?  Marquez’ knockout of Pacquiao was by far the most impressive victory of his career.  Was that a fairytale or?  And if Memo still believes certain substances are impossible to detect, what would keep him from providing them to the fighters he works with?

ONLY THE DUMB GUYS GET CAUGHT

Certain substances can only be detected through blood testing and even then they are only detectable for a certain window of time. This is why the testing of the Nevada State Athletic Commission is laughable.  They solely provide scheduled urine tests which will only catch the stupidest of athletes.  This is also why companies such as VADA (Voluntary Anti Doping Assn) and USADA (United States Anti Doping Assn) are absolutely necessary, because they randomly test fighters and they include blood testing.

OLD TIMERS LIKE BOB ARUM WAKING UP!

Earlier this year, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum seemed to understand the importance of this as he told Gabriel Montoya of Maxboxing.com that all fighters under Top Rank promotions would be forced to undergo VADA testing.  “We’re going to use VADA.  Pacquiao, Marquez, all of them.” On the flip side, Memo Heredia said in an interview with boxingscene.com that all of his fighters would undergo USADA testing.

MARQUEZ & BRADLEY: THE DRUG ISSUES!

On October 12th Juan Manuel Marquez is slated to face Timothy Bradley Jr. in the battle of recent Pacquiao successive conquerors, although Bradley’s victory was quite controversial.  On the other hand, I guess Marquez’s KO of Pacman was as well in the eyes of many.  Bradley and Ruslan Provodnikov each underwent VADA testing prior to their March thriller and since then he has been very vocal about his desire to have random drug testing for not only this fight but all of his fights period.

 RANDOM TESTING AGREED THEN POO-POO’ED

In the negotiations to his fight with Marquez, Bradley clearly expressed his desire to have random testing performed on both fighters in the 10 weeks leading up to their bout.  But as the days have gone by no tests were performed on either fighter.  Bradley took to Twitter to voice his concern and threatened to pull out of the fight.

TIM NEED REALIZE HIS PLACE AT THE TABLE

In reality, Bradley is the B side in this fantastic match up, leaving him stuck between a rock and hard place.  Go on with the fight without testing and leave himself at a possible disadvantage or stick to his principles and miss out on the gargantuan payday it provides for him and his growing family.  Arum said that the issue is over with, that they will have the Nevada State Athletic Commision perform the same type of tests on Marquez organizations such as USADA and VADA perform, while Bradley will undergo testing by both VADA and the NSAC.

DOES ANYBODY REALLY GIVE A PUCK?

But once again, the questions must be asked: how competent, well versed on the subject (or experienced) is the Nevada State Athletic Commission in performing these types of tests and detecting these substances?  Shane Mosley beat Nevada, as did Evander Holyfield and Tommy Morrison.  Will negative results be released to both parties, the promoters, or the public?  Why did it take so long for testing to take place?  Why did testing only begin after Bradley began to openly express his concerns?  Why bring the inexperienced (incompetent) NSAC in at all?  Why did Memo and Arum both say their fighters would respectively use USADA and VADA testing then renege on their word?  Why aren’t more people asking questions?  How come so few people seem to give a damn?
