Wladimir Klitschko Slays Another Victim
VLADIMIR PUTIN TO HOST MEGA-FIGHT
San Francisco, CA– World heavyweight (over 200 lbs.) boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko (60-3, 51 KOs) of the Ukraine will defend the WBO, IBF & IBO titles he holds on October 5 in Moscow, Russia against unbeaten Russian fighter and WBA heavyweight title bearer Alexander Povetkin (26-0, 18 KOs).
KLITSCHKO TO “ICE” POVETKIN?
While I’m not saying the 33-year old Alexander Povetkin can’t fight, he can a little, but he’s been swimming in the shallow end of the heavyweight talent pool his entire career. At 37, Wladimir, whether or not you like his style, his mother, his brother, he is in magnificent condition for somebody that won Olympic Gold in 1996.
THERE IS NO “LEARNING TO SWIM” AT 33!
At 37, Klitschko is at an age where most champions who have come before him usually get knocked off their perch. Muhammad Ali lost to Leon Spinks circa 35, before being destroyed by Larry Holmes at 38, Joe Louis was decimated by Rocky Marciano at 38, the list can go for an eternity when it comes to fighters who refused to walk away on top. The aforementioned Rocky Marciano retired undefeated and in the 60 or so years since Rock bowed out, no heavyweight has been able to go out on top!
VLADIMIR PUTIN TO SPAR WITH WLAD OR POVETKIN?
I expect Wlad Klitschko to go out as champion. There isn’t anyone outside of possibly, and he would be very long odds, but the unbeaten Bulgarian fighter Kubrat Pulev (17-0, 9 KOs) is being feted by some boxing insiders as the guy to possibly replace Wlad. As for the Russian Czar/President Vladimir Putin, you can expect this egomaniac to become part of the promotion.
COULDN’T SWIM AT FIRST OFFER, STILL CANNOT!
They first tried to make this three years ago and Team Povetkin admitted they were not ready. What has changed since then? Wlad is three years older, but so is Povetkin. Look, the bottom line is that Wladimir Klitschko, unless he gets hit with a murderous punch he doesn’t see incoming, Klitschko wins this fight handily and inside the distance to boot!
AS FOR VITALI KLITSCHKO
The match with Bermane Stiverne, the WBC #1 contender, has been moved to sometime in 2014 as Vitali Klitschko, the WBC heavyweight titleholder has an injured right hand. At 42, I can understand Vitali wanting to be at his best, for these are his final fights in a career that has mirrored that of his brother. Stiverne has won two title elimination bouts, both as an underdog and should be put into WBC “interim” title bout until Vitali can fight again.
