WELTERWEIGHTS GET SHOWTIME SPOTLIGHT
Saturday, July 27, 2013
San Antonio, Texas– AT&T Center (Showtime) Andre Berto (28-2, 22 KOs) vs Jesus Soto Karass (27-8-3, 17 KOs) (147 lb.) Odds/Prediction: Berto 12-5. Looks closer to some, but not to the people that made this fight. Wagering here is a “steal” if Berto has anything left. Reasoning for the drubbing at the hands of Robert Guerrero (31-2-1, 18 KOs) in November 2012 was 50-50 in that Robert was better than people thought and Berto took him lightly! Throwing big wad on possible damaged goods (Berto) because I believe in matchmaking of Al Haymon. $2,400 to net $3,400.
UNBEATEN THURMAN MEETS UNDEFEATED ARGENTINE
Keith Thurman (20-0, 18 KOs) vs Diego Gabriel Chaves (22-0, 18 KOs) (147 lb.) Odds/Prediction: Thurman 3-1. Keith and Kell Brook (UK 30-0, 20 KOs) are the two in position to be next welterweight superstar. Loudmouth Diego G. Chaves, who has done yeoman’s duty in singlehandedly promoting this Showtime Championship Boxing event, looks like a small impediment in Thurman’s march to a title clash. Again, will go with Al Haymon and lay $6,000 to walk with $8,000.
“OTHER” DIRRELL BROTHER MEETS GATEKEEPER HANSHAW
Anthony Hanshaw (23-3-2, 14 KOs) vs Anthony Dirrell (25-0, 21 KOs) (168 lb.) Odds/Prediction: Dirrell 12-5. If Dirrell doesn’t pack a full lunch, he could lose here. Hanshaw usually game and willing to fight.
FIVE STAR BETTING SPECIAL
Omar Figueroa (21-0-1, 17 KOs) vs Nihito Arakawa (24-2-1, 16 KOS) 135 lb.) Odds/Prediction: Omar 3-1. Looks like “Five Star Betting Special” of weekend. Japanese fighter is lefty, outside of that Figueroa looks vastly superior. Placing $6,000 wager to net $8 G’s.
