PAULIE MAKES BRONER “TRASH-CLASH” CLOSER THAN PREDICTED
Brooklyn, NY– Barclays Center Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KOs) Split Decision 12 Paulie Malignaggi (32-5, 7 KOS) (WBA 147 lb. title) Paulie puts up spirited battle and seemed intent on winning with quantity while Broner landed quality. Weird scores followed as Glenn Feldman had Broner 115-113, Tom Miller went Malignaggi 115-113 (7-5 in rounds). Incredibly Tom Schreck had Broner up 117-111 or 9-3 in rounds. Malignaggi stated afterwards that Scheck was “bought and paid for” by Al Hayman, who handles Broner, the Cincinnati resident who moves from 135 to 147 lbs. successfully. Fight was surrounded by more “sh*t” talk than any fight in recent memory.
WHISPERS IMPLY JOHNATHON “MR.” BANKS “TANKED” MITCHELL FIGHT
Seth Mitchell (26-1-1, 19 KOs) UD 12 Johnathon Banks (29-1-1, 19 KOs) (Heavyweight over 200 lbs.) Back at the “host” hotel, people associated with the under-card were of the opinion that Banks “threw” the big-money rematch. After hurting “soft bearded’ Mitchell in two different rounds, first dropping Mitchell in round two with a nicely placed right uppercut. Then Ms. Banks hurt Seth in the following round (3) and decked him again in eighth. Taking lethargic to an almost Trevor Berbick-ST Gordon (1980s) level, Banks simply did nothing to follow up when the opportunity presented itself. Scores were a predictable 115-112, 117-109 & 114-112 for Mitchell who still has more leaks than the Titanic.
BIKA MAKES GOOD ON “LAST” SHOT!
Australia’s Sakio Bika (33-5-2, 21 KOs) Majority Decision 12 Marco Antonio Periban (20-1, 13 KOs) (WBC 168 lb. title) Bika captures a title after missed opportunities. Scores were 116-112, 115-113 & 114-114. Right on! Bika a warrior who is “not connected” but has world class ability and thus is avoided like VD.
