BANKS-MITCHELL REMATCH “REAL” HBO MAIN
San Francisco, CA– Although the Paulie Malignaggi-Adrien Broner bout slated for Saturday has had plenty of pre-fight fireworks with both men hurling dung at the other, the real intriging match up of the weekend is a rematch featuring heavyweights Johnathon Banks and Seth Mitchell. In case you missed it, Banks a prohibitive betting underdog knocked Mitchell out last November.
MITCHELL HAD NO OPTIONS EXCEPT BANKS
After having his cage rattled by Chazz Witherspoon in the outing prior to getting chilled by Banks, the whispers of his having a weak beard became overt screams after Banks drilled him with three knockdowns inside of two fistic frames. Mitchell, 29, a client of Al “Gets It Done” Hayman, boxing’s current Svengali, was not so keen on the rematch. Boxed into a corner by fans and the media alike, Seth was seemingly shoved into the rematch.

If you want to drink the Seth Mitchell Kool Aid, the then undefeated fighter who was a late starter in the boxing biz, “got caught cold,” asserting the ending was a fluke and not a true representation of the Maryland native. But what stands out to me is the sub-par level of Seth’s opposition as I perused his pugilistic resume. The only real ”tested” heavyweight with a winning record Seth faced (KO 2) was Timur Ibragimov (31-4, 16 KOs). while Timur can fight a little, he’s not exactly the second coming of Mike Tyson.
BANKS IS AN AMAZING STORY!
Besides his being Emanuel Steward’s right hand in training, Banks trains Wladimir Klitschko (60-3, 51 KOs) and went into the November fight with Mitchell a 4-1 underdog. Inside of six minutes later, Mitchell was exposed in the minds of many as an over protected schlep that can’t fight with a glass jaw. Not even slightly impressed by Mitchell or his then unbeaten record (now 25-1-1, 19 KOs) Banks took it to Seth, dropping him three times before the fight was called at 2:37 of round two.
LOSS TO ADAMEK WAS AT CRUISERWEIGHT!
In February 2009. Banks, then fighting at 200 lbs., met cruiserweight king Tomasz Adamek (48-2, 29 KOs) and was back in the dressing room pondering his first defeat TKO 8. A three-time US Nationals champion at 178 lbs. (light heavy), Mr. Banks has shown he can hang with the Klitschko bros. in sparring. That being said, now you can see why Mr. Banks had and has “no fear” of Seth Mitchell.
BOTH MEN WITH A LOT TO PROVE!
Johnathan Banks is desperate to show the world that he belongs in the heavyweight title picture, that he is an elite fighter and not some sparring partner that got lucky.
