SILVA LUNCHMEAT AGAIN?
San Francisco, CA– Being of the firm belief that at least when it came to boxing, the guy that won the first fight usually wins any subsequent encounter involving the two. That being said, does the same rationale apply to UFC 160 tomorrow night and the second tango between once-beaten (12-1) UFC heavyweight (205+ to 265 lbs.) champion Cain Velasquez and Antonio “Big Foot” Silva?
MAYHEM GORY EVEN BY MMA STANDARDS
The picture here clearly illustrates what Velasquez, a once beaten two-time UFC titleholder who skirted my aforemention notion that the guy that win the initial bout wins the rematch, was knocked out (punches) by Junior Dos Santos in late 2011, whom he smoked over five rounds in a second tango in 2012, is an animal with super human cardio and ferocity.
WHAT’S “BIG FOOT” TO DO?
Antonio Silva, as unbeaten Strikeforce Grand Prix heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier said on my radio program a fortnight ago, “Big Foot Silva is a fighter who knows nothing else but fighting. Do I think he beats Cain? No, but he thinks so, and going into a fight that is really important, he is feeling it.” That being said, if Silva were to pull off a near 10-1 upset, I’ll eat a sheet of paper during next week’s edition of “Ring Talk.”
LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT “STUD” IN CO-FEATURE
Remember the name Glover Teixeira, a top five UFC light heavyweight (205 lbs.) contender fighting out of Brazil. The 32-year old is on a hell of a roll seeing in 2012 he defeated Kyle Kingsbury, Fabio Maldanado and ex-champ Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. Also known as victims 16, 17 & 18 as Glover is on an 18-fight winning streak dating back to 2005 and his fourth bout.
THREESOME AT 205 LBS. VERY INTRIGING
Putting that streak and a 20-2 record on the line against (16-5) James Te-Huna in what is perceived as a fight that will further Glover’s position as one of the two leading contenders, Alex Gustafsson is the other, to light heavyweight UFC champion Jon Jones. The Pay Per View end of UFC 160 begins at 7:00 PT. For more info oN prelims and the like, go to www.UFC.com
