ZAB JUDAH MOST DON’T KNOW
San Francisco, CA–For those of you that are wondering why I didn’t do a feature on Danny Garcia-Zab Judah, I just couldn’t get up for this fight. I’m not saying that I’ll need pugilistic Viagra in order to enjoy this evenings world 140 lb. title tiff as the unbeaten Garcia (25-0, 16 KOs) is talented and entertaining. But I was there at the 1996 Olympic Trials, and then again in 2001 when Judah tried to throw a stool at referee Jay Nady. Granted, he had just been pulverized by then jr. welterweight kingpin Kostya Tsyzu, but it sort of told you what kind of guy old Zab is.
FUNNY MONEY & HOOKERS!
There were other things involving the Judah boys. The pushing of an elderly usher after a fight at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, NV, the alleged passing of counterfeit money to hookers, Zab and brother Daniel were not perfect. Now the Brooklyn, NY native says he is living the perfect life. No longer a practicing Jew, the former champion at 140 & 147, now claims to be a born again Christian.
BORN AGAIN CAN BE A FLEETING EXPERIENCE
You know I have encountered murderers, rapists, I am talking the dreads of society. Do you have any idea what bounds these people together at some point? Being born again! Seeing the recidivism rate (those that return to prison) is as high as it is, I guess not everybody that is born again dies that way.
NOT DOING ZAB ANY FAVORS HERE
The bottom line is that the 35-year old Zabdiel Judah has been fighting around 25 years now, 17 as a professional, and is so long in the tooth as a fighter they had to make a special mouthpiece for this fight. Let’s be honest about his chances, Amir Khan knocked out Zab in July 2011. Having one match in 2012 (March) a TKO 9 upset win over then 26-0, 15 KOs Vernon Paris, and now 13 months later he is matched with the man that drilled Khan in Danny Garcia.
COLORFUL PROMOTION IS JUDAH’S SWAN SONG
My reading about the camps of both men bantering back and forth in the buildup to tonight was refreshing as I like smack talk. Danny Garcia’s father Angel is bit of a court jester. At this stage of the game, Zab once one of the best speakers in boxing, can’t keep up with the elder Garcia when it comes to verbal skills. Although some might see this scenario as sad, I think it’s a chance for Judah to put a few hundred thousand dollars away in a 401(k) plan.
BALDOMIR FIGHT & MAYWEATHER FIASCO
Besting Cory Spinks in 2005 saw Zab at his peak. Next time out Judah (now 42-7, 29 KOs) lost to unheralded Carlos Baldomir, and then rioted with Floyd Mayweather’s family in 2006 which got resulted in a suspension. How certain do I feel that this is the end for Zabdiel? I’m going to quote Don King. “He (Zab) has two chances, Slim and none. And slim just left town.”
