“GIANT” SILVA CRAVES REMATCH WITH CAIN VELASQUEZ
San Francisco, CA– You are looking at the face of Antonio “Big Foot” Silva during a three round battle with current UFC heavyweight (205+ to 265 lbs) champion CCain Velasquez on May 26, 2012. Turn the calendar over 12 times and 364 days later these two battle again on May 25 at UFC 160. This rematch came to be as a result of Velasquez recapturing the heavyweight title with a five-round beat down of Junior Dos Santos, the man who beat Velasquez in the blink of an eye in late 2011.
SILVA UPSET STEROID FREAK
Antonio Silva was supposed to come up short against former #1 contender Alistair Overeem in February. Instead the Brazilian, with his back to the wall, ended up stopping the convicted Steroid user in round three of what was basically a “title elimination” bout. With the upset eventually came the second fight with Velasquez. When I say eventually, the UFC was looking for somebody other than Silva to face Cain in his second run as champ as the brutal pounding shown above is essentially still freshly etched in the minds of most fans. But that couldn’t get done so the UFC went back to Silva challenging Velasquez.
WHY DOES “GIANT” SILVA WANT VELASQUEZ SO BAD?
As undefeated Showtime Grand Prix heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier stated in a recent appearance on the longest running fight show in history, Ring Talk Worldwide, “Giant Silva is a fighter. That is all he’s about.” OK, but so is Cain Velasquez and after seeing their first encounter ended as it did, I say a repeat is in hand for the champion Velasquez.
