LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE TIFF TOPS BELLATOR CARD

San Francisco, CA– January 2013, it cannot come soon enough for Bellator Fighting Championships CEO Bjorn Rebney. More on that later. Friday night on MTV2, which is almost akin to Public Access TV in a major city, only it’s coast to coast, the fledging network will bring MMA fans what on paper looks like a competitive card from Tunica, Miss. The main event features the Bellator light heavyweight (205 lb) tournament finale when the far more experienced Travis Wiuf (68-14) meets Attila Vegh (27-4-2) for the Bellator gold!

GLIMPSE OF THE TWO LIGHT HEAVIES!

At 6’3 and a Rochester, NY native, Travis with 68 fights is a guy that prefers not to put his MMA career in the hands of the judges. He has 22 KOs, 23 submissions and 23 wins coming via the point system. From what little I’ve seen of him, he appears to be your stereotypical brawler. In his 12 losses, Travis has fell victim to 7 KOs, 5 Subs and two decisions. Attila Vegh on the other hand is soon to turn 27 years old, hails from the country of Slovakia and like most Russian/Eastern European MMA artists has combined styles that make this a fight fans should enjoy. In his four losses one was a TKO, another a Sub, while losing a pair of fights on points.

BANTAMWEIGHT TOURNEY FINALE ON TAP AS WELL

I’ve always liked the lighter guys, be it in boxing or MMA. Friday night the co-feature pits bantamweights (135) Marcos Galvao (12-5-1) against Luis Nogueira (14-2). The two times Luis has lost are a submission and a decision. Galvao fights out of Rio and is a guy that has put his fate in the hands of the judges 11 times in his 12 wins. Both being Jiu Jitsu practitioners, Galvao is also 32 compared to Luis Nogueira being 25. That right there, the age factor, has me swinging Nog’s way in this match.

WHY JANUARY CAN’T COME QUICK ENOUGH FOR BELLATOR CEO?

In January, Bjorn Rebney’s Bellator Fighting Championships will debut on Spike TV. With something like 250-280,000 viewers catching the action on MTV2, expect those numbers to increase four or five fold come 2013.
