EXACTLY WHAT IS WRONG WITH BOXING!
San Francisco, CA– Yesterday, Kevin Perry wrote a story about Erislandy Lara. You know, the top ranked WBC contender for 154 lb. champion Saul Alvarez. Seeing he’s #1, why all the bull spit? Golden Boy Promotions handles both fighters, are they that afraid of Lara dethroning Mexico’s latest sensation “Canelo” Alvarez? And what does this say about Alvarez, as a man and as a fighter? I’m sure he’s read the various posts around the Internet claming he’s running, hiding, avoiding, ducking, you chose the verbiage, from the Cuban. Fans, this is why boxing is on life support, unable to breathe on it’s own!
ROY JONES POLISH UPDATE
Roy Jones Jr. is going to fight this weekend in Poland. Slight problem involved as his scheduled opponent David Koslecki (39-1, 28 KOs) is in jail. Pawel Glazewski (17-0, 4 KOs) will step in if Kostecki is not sprung by fight time.
LADY CHAMP AVA KNIGHT NOT AFRAID OF THE ROAD
Ava Knight, the IBF 112 lb. women’s champion, who has been featured on “Ring Talk Boxing & MMA Radio,” will defend her title June 30 on a Televisa televised event emanating from Mexico. At 8-1-3, 5 KOs, Knight who resides in Northern California, isn’t afraid to take her act on the road. But unlike a lot of “road” warriors, Ava beats her opponents to the point where there is little, if any controversy. I expect her next opponent Susana Vargas to bite the dust, as Knight appears to be head & shoulders above the other women in her division.
GOLOTA IN TROUBLE…AGAIN!
Andrew Golota, remember him? A pair of disqualification losses to Riddick Bowe, his jaw being broken by Mike Tyson, or how about his imitating an Illinois Highway Patrolman when pulled over by the Chicago Police. Andrew has had his share of problems. After applying for permanent citizenship in the United States, the records reveal that Golota was charged with several gun charges in 2006. Even though he is a married to an American, Andrew still might be deported back to Poland. Of all the quality heavyweight contenders in the past 20 years, Golota had the most talent and the least amount of heart. The deportation issue will be resolved in September and I think he’ll be allowed to stay in the USA.
“OLD MAN” BAILEY TO GET HALF MILLION!
When Randall Bailey knocked out Mike Jones June 9 for the vacant IBF welterweight (147) championship, it was more than just a mild upset. Now it looks like Bailey will be defending that belt on September 8 against once-beaten former champion Devon Alexander. Only one thing holding this fight up, no not the $500,000 purse that the 37-year old Bailey is been offered, it’s fighting anywhere but Missouri, mainly St. Louis, where Alexander has been the recipient of home cooking! If it takes place, it’ll be on Showtime! Alexander’s people are of the opinion that the fight will be easy. Rarely is a fight with Randall Bailey ever easy!
