BOTH THE WBA 168 & WBC 175 LB. TITLES?

San Francisco, CA– The unbeaten World 168 lb. (super middleweight) champion Andre Ward (25-0, 13 KOs) will meet Chad Dawson (31-1, 17 KOs) sometime in September in Ward’s adopted hometown of Oakland, CA. Born in San Francisco, Ward began his boxing career that included an Olympic Gold Medal in 2004 and culminated with his winning the “Showtime Super Six 168 lb. Tournament” in December 2011 with a UD 12 over Carl Froch.

INJURED WARD FOUGHT WITH BROKEN HAND

Although he continues to draw critcism by some members of the media, Ward shined in his 12-round win over Froch, especially seeing the converted left hander was fighting with a broken left hand. Throughout the tourney, Ward showed his supremacy at 168 and appears to be looking for “bigger fish” to fry. Dawson is coming off a 12 round rout (even though one judge called it even) a fortnight ago over Bernard Hopkins.

PLOT THICKENS IF DAWSON CAN MAKE 168!

Reportedly, Dawson has stated he would be willing to come down to 168 lbs. and put
his WBC 175 lb. diadem on the line against Ward. Speaking of Ward, June will be a big month for the champion as he gets the “Fighter of The Year” award in New York City. His wife Tiffany is also expected to give birth to their fourth child next month.

“HUNT” TO TRAINER OF YEAR AWARD AS WELL!

Virgil Hunter, who has trained Ward since he was a pup will be in unbeaten Karim Mayfield’s (12-0-1, 9 KOs) corner when the “Hard Hitta” from San Francisco goes to Albany, NY to fight in the Friday Night ESPN2 Fights main event against Raymond Serrano (18-0, 8 KOs) of Philadelphia. Hunter will accept the “Trainer of The Year” award at the Boxing Writers Assn. of America dinner for his handling of Ward.
