WHEN A GRUDGE MATCH LACKS GRUDGE

San Francisco, CA– Having been friends for years, there was always a question of whether or not the hype leading up to the Jon Jones-Rashad Evans match was real or just staged to make people think that World War III was about to break out. After watching Jones dissect his former stablemate over five one-side, but not explosive rounds, I almost thought that JJ was taking it easy on the 6-1 underdog Evans. Yeah, there was some flashes of brilliance form the essentially unbeaten Jones, whose only loss was by disqualification against Matt Hammill, whom he was pounding on like my used to do with cheap steak before cooking it.

BULID UP DID NOT EQUATE TO DYNAMITE

Without being redundant, I just expected more fireworks, something like an early fourth of July show, but it was not to be and Jones retained his UFC World light heavyweight (205 lbs) title with a five-five minute round unanimous decision. Scores read 49-46, 49-46 & 50-45). Jones is now 16-1, Evans a former light heavyweight champ drops to 17-2.
