CHICK WHO BEAT GINA CARANO “CONVICTED” OF STEROID USE
San Francisco, CA– Anybody who has ever looked at the body of female MMA star Cris “Cyborg” Santos, if you’re like me, you came away with the opinion that, “You’ve never seen a more manly body on a female fighter in your life!” When Santos beat Gina Carano and took away the now Hollywood star’s unbeaten record with a TKO 1 (punches) at 4:59 of the first round on August 15, 2009, everybody was whispering that Cyborg looked like she was on steroids.
GINA CARANO-CRIS SANTOS: WAS IT A WOMAN FIGHTING A MAN?
Plain and simple, Santos overwhelmed Carano, the biggest female draw in MMA history with her upper body strength. In December 2011, Santos tested positive for Stanazol, which is another name for Winstrol, an anabolic “fat reducing” steroid, this after she nearly beheaded Hiroka Yamanaka in 16 seconds in San Diego, CA on a Strikeforce card topped by Gilbert Melendez.
CONVICTED “CYBORG” SANTOS WAS ALWAYS SUSPECTED OF STEROID USE!
When Santos first tested positive, she said she would appeal and that she was innocent, at least until proven guilty. In January, when the California State Athletic Commission analyzed a second urine sample of Santos, they suspended “Cyborg” for one year. A fortnight ago, Santos went before the commission to appeal the one-year suspension. She admitted that she took something her trainer had given her to lose weight. While that went over with John Frierson of the athletic commission, who was of the opinion this really was an accident, (yeah right), the rest of the board did not agree and told her she would be suspended for one year with a retroactive date of January. In addition, the match with the Japanese fighter was taken off of Cyborg’s record and she is now 10-1.
SANTOS HAS THE BODY OF A WELL-BUILT “CUT” MAN
Outside of her needing or not needing to shave her face daily, this woman looked like one of the more physically imposing bodies I have ever seen, be it mail or female. The April commission meeting was a “weak” attempt by Santos to offer some type of excuse for her using steroids. Just look at her body, that’s all!
EVEN WITH WIN OVER CARANO “CYBORG” NEVER GOT “OVER”
When Gina Carano fought, she would pull 15 to 16,000 fans into San Jose, CA’s HP Pavilion, the home of the NHL’s San Jose Sharks. Having out blown Carano, the then “First Lady of MMA,” Santos never came close to generating the kind of money or fans the daughter of former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Glen Carano. Gina, who is now working on her second Hollywood flick, this after her “Haywire” debut with Michael Douglas and Antonio Banderas earlier this year, Carano told me on “Ring Talk MMA Radio” that she, “Never retired.”
COKER CONCURS GINA “WONDER WOMAN” CARANO WILL BE BACK!
Strikeforce founder Scott Coker told me when I mentioned Carano’s quotes in an appearance he made with former-UFC heavyweight champion Josh Barnett on my program three weeks ago, Coker said he expects Gina to return to fighting in the cage. Off the air, Coker hinted that Gina might be back late in 2013, this after the conclusion of her role “In The Blood,” which begins filming this summer. After that, there is already talk going around Tinseltown that Carano will star in a new version of “Wonder Woman.” With that being said, I am thinking that we may never see Carano fight again!
