HBO AIRED LIVE FROM THE “LONE STAR” (OR “RIP OFF” STATE!
Houston, TX – Danny Garcia, (139.5), Philadelphia, PA UD 12 Erik Morales, (142 lbs), San Ysidro, CA. (vacant WBC 140 lb title only Garcia could win as Morales failed to make weight) Garcia (23-0, 14 KOs) looked tentative at first as experience gave Morales (53-8, 36 KOs) an edge until Garcia picked up the pace. A knockdown of Morales solidified the win for the younger fighter. Even so, it was way closer than two of the judges had it. Cards read 117-110, 116-110 and 118-109.
James Kirkland, (153.75), Austin, TX W DQ 10 Carlos Molina, (153.75), Chicago, IL. In a fight Kirkland (31-1, 27 KOs) was clearly losing when he knocks Molina (19-5-2, 6 KOs) down at the bell to end round ten and then the confusion begins as Molina’s cornerman stepped through the ropes and he was disqualified. Referee Jon Schorle didn’t want to DQ Molina, but was ordered to by the Texas Commission, probably because Kirkland, the “house” fighter and favorite was losing by five points on two cards. Incredibly, the third card tallied by either the most crooked or inept Texas judge Gale Van Hoye had Kirkland up by a point! Bottom line is Molina was robbed of the victory.
NBC SPORTS MAIN EVENT WAS NON-COMPETITIVE!
Brooklyn, NY– Zab Judah, (138), Las Vegas, NV
TKO 9 Vernon Paris, (138), Detroit, MI. Judah (42-7, 29 KOs) gives Paris (26-1, 15 KOs) his first blemish in a fight where it looked like Paris either didn’t show up or was compromised beforehand. A pathetic performance by the fighter from Motown. Time was 2:27. Judah just had too much speed, experience and power which couldn’t be overcome by Paris.
HEAVYWEIGHT POLE A WINNER
Tomasz Adamek, (222.5), Jersey City, NJ UD 10 Nagy Aguilera, (226.5) Newburgh, NY. Adamek (45-2, 28 KOs) totally dominant against the game but limited Aguilera (17-7, 12 KOs). The final tally was 99-91 and 100-90 twice.
Bryant Jennings, (219.5), Philadelphia, PA TKO 9 Sergei Liakhovich, (231), Scottsdale, AZ. Jennings (13-0, 6 KOs) turns former world (alphabet title) champion Liakhovich (25-5, 16 KOs) into a human punching bag in just his 13th pro fight. Referee Eddie Claudio and the ringside doctor had seen enough of the massacre at the end of nine.
HOPEFULLY PPV DISPLAYS “END” OF TYE FIELDS
Atlantic City, NJ– Mariusz Wach, (247), North Bergen, NJ KO 6 Tye Fields, (256), Alberta, Canada. Wach (26-0, 15 KOs) all over a happy for a payday Fields (49-5, 44 KOs) who checks out at 1:44 of #6. Fields had his moments but just not in the fight.
