HBO AIRED LIVE FROM “THE THEATER” AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN!
New York City, NY– Sergio Martinez, (157.5 lbs), Oxnard, CA TKO 11 Matthew Macklin, (158), Birmingham, England (World 160 lb title) Did Martinez (49-2-2, 28 KOs) take Macklin (28-4, 19 KOs) lightly, was Macklin too awkward, or is he getting old? I believe it’s a combination of all of the above. Martinez clearly won the first two rounds with superior aggression. Macklin, however may have won the next three. Martinez was in a bit of a hole when a trip sans a punch resulted in a knockdown in round seven. They traded the next few rounds, with Sergio barely winning them. However e made the cards irrelevant as he battered Macklin in the eleventh dropping him twice late, prompting trainer Buddy McGirt to not let a “hurt” MM to come out for the final round.
RODRIGUEZ HAD FOE WITH GOOD RECORD & AVERAGE SKILLS
Super middleweight contender Edwin Rodriguez, (166), Worcester, MA UD 10 Don George, (166), Chicago, IL Rodriguez (21-0, 14 KOs) kept his record perfect against the unknown George (22-2-1, 19 KOs). Behind mostly his jab, Rodriguez was content to go the distance rather than excite the crowd. The cards read 99-91, 96-94 and 97-93.

Lopez (17-0, 12 KOs) keeps his perfect record with his win over Tolmajyan (11-2-1, 3 KOs). Lopez wasn’t as focused as he should have been but against the lesser skilled Tolmajyan, but it was enough. Scores were 78-74 twice and 79-73.

Omar Figueroa, (136.2), Weslaco, TX TKO 2 Ramon Ayala, (135), Tlaxcala, Mexico
Figueroa (15-0-1, 12 KOs) dismantles the way overmatched Ayala (23-3-1, 11 KOs) in two one sided rounds. Landing almost all he thrEw especially to the body, Omar dropped Ayala in the closing seconds of the round. Even though he got up, he fell backwards ending the night at 2:53.
