Floyd “Greed” Mayweather

EVEN AT 50-50, FLOYD MAKES DOUBLE THE MONEY MANNY DOES

San Francisco, CA– Although Manny Pacquiao stated he would take less money that Floyd Mayweather for a May 5 bout, the Filipino icon has changed his mind and now wants a 50-50 split! What most likely occurred was his promoter Bob Arum put him in check, this after Pacquiao told Philippine television that he would. Look, Arum has been humiliated by Mayweather. First he steals the “treasured” May 5 date by renting the MGM Grand Garden Arena, the biggest hotel venue in Las Vegas, something Arum has almost always had in his pocket.

“LITTLE FLOYD” HAS OUTFOXED “BIG BOB”

Then Floyd, feeling that he is the boss, something that Arum can’t stomach because Floyd “out smarted” him, implies that if Arum won’t bring Manny Pacquiao to the dance May 5, he’ll just line up another opponent like Saul Alvarez, Miguel Cotto or Robert Guerrero. Having known Arum for some 30 years now, his blood pressure must be off the charts seeing Floyd has outmaneuvered him by locking up the MGM Grand, as well as the Pay Per View for that date.

TWO BOXING PPV EVENTS ON MAY 5 NOT LIKELY

Arum does have one option and that being he could run Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez 4 in Las Vegas at the Thomas & Mack Arena on the University of Las Vegas campus. Seeing the MGM Grand and the smaller Mandalay Bay Hotelare owned by the same people, I don’t think venue is an option of Arum. Although running two fight cards on PPV on the same night would be like PPV suicide, I doubt if that is going to occur. That being said, I still wouldn’t put it past either of these ego maniacs.

BACK TO THE MAYWEATHER “GREED” FACTOR

Even though one could admire Floyd for putting Arum’s balls in a vice and turning the crank to tighten the grip, you also have to realize that even with a 50-50 split with Manny Pacquiao, Floyd will still make almost “twice” the money Pacquiao would derive from the fight. That’s because Mayweather has advisers/employees like Al Hayman, who is said to take only 10% fro his fighters. Leonard Ellerbe, I couldn’t imagine him getting more than 5%, couple that with training expenses and the like and maybe Floyd could spend 20% of his gross earnings.

FLOYD “MONEY” MAYWEATHER

It is estimmated that the undefeated Mayweather took home about $35 to $40 million from his last fight with Victor Ortiz. Although you read reports that Manny made $25 million for the fourth Juan Manuel Marquez bout, you need to realize that Pacquiao has what some say is an “ownerous” deal with Bob Arum that some say give Arum an almost 50-50 split with the Pacman. If you throw in trainer Freddie Roach’s reported 10% in, as well as the huge chunk that Pacquiao’s Philippine advisor Michael Koncz gets, and one can believe the rumors that Pacquiao has been getting “front money” from Arum for recent fights.

FLOYD COULD TAKE 40% & MAKE MORE THAN PACQUIAO

That being fact, Pacquiao is probably headed for a June 9 date at the Thomas & Mack Arena, with a host of opponents NOT named Mayweather being discussed. Although I can blame both sides for jerking off boxing fans in general, Mayweather will make far more money than Pacquiao at 50-50. So I ask Floyd, why not take the easier fight with Pacquiao, rather than face bigger guys like Miguel Cotto or Saul Alvarez. You see Floyd, sometimes “common sense means more dollars and cents!”
