San Francisco, CA– My intention was not to quote promoter Bob Arum here, but I just did. That we’ll discuss later. In the spy business the ‘ultimate’ is being poisoned by a foreign spy. In boxing, it’s somebody loading up their boxing gloves. I’ll make this short but sweet. Nobody is “jamming up” Antonio Margarito on his being caught with a plaster of Paris pad in an already wrapped hand in January 2009, and that they found one more identical block in his trainer Javier Capetillo’s possession, this while starting to wrap his other hand for a fight with Shane Mosley at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

After one year had come and gone, Margarito wanted his license reinstated. Both California & Nevada said they would not. So Bob Arum pitched his Antonio Margarito-Manny Pacquiao fight to Jerry Jones of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys and Jones got Antonio licensed in Texas. All it would have taken is a phone call from Jerry’s people, and the Texas Boxing Commission, the majority would have OK’d Margarito to fight in Jerry’s house. Once Jones got involved, it was a done deal. When people like Jones call you, think J.W. Ewing in his prime, he of the returning Dallas show on CBS TV, only 1,000 times as powerful in Dallas, and Jerry Jones is real.

Manny Pacquiao fighting in Dallas a “winner” for Jones, Arum, the City, everybody made money when the Pacquiao shutout both Joshua Clottey and Antonio Margarito over 12 rounds. A manager who has dealt with Bob Arum called the other day amazed by all the press Cotto-Margarito II was getting and all seemingly positive. For the record, Collins’ was well represented by Bob Arum, who railed loud and got both Resto and Lewis banned for life and they were. But it was not in his best interests to do so with Margarito simply because Arum made a lot of money off Margarito and lost money in the Collins situation.

Jack Dempsey broke over 20 facial bones of Jess Williard in a 1919 fight, this in addition to breaking a few ribs in less than three rounds. In 1964, Jack Kearns, who was Dempsey’s promoter/manager, admitted that Dempsey’s wraps were loaded with plaster of Paris that Kearns had Dempsey immerse in buckets of water in the dressing room, by the time they got into the ring with five ounce gloves, Dempsey’s hands were like casts.
MARGARITO SHOULD HAVE BEEN CHARGED WITH 245 A OF CALIFORNIA PENAL CODE
According to the California Penal Code, 245 A PC is Assault with a Deadly Weapon. And “Assault” in California is, “An Attempt, Coupled With Present Ability.” With the substance Margarito had already placed in one hand wrap for his fight with Mosley, the Intent & the Ability was there. But back to the line I started with, “Just One More Fight, Please,” this was what Arum was pleading when he was trying to get Margarito licensed in California and Nevada. Margarito should have never been allowed to box again, both he and trainer Javier Capetillo should be banned for life.
