NONITO DONAIRE BRINGS “FILIPINO FLASH” TO NYC

HBO Boxing

New York, NY– Recently crowned WBO/WBC bantamweight (118 lbs) kingpin and “pound for pound” top five elite boxer in the world “The Filipino Flash” Nonito Donaire (26-1, 18 KOs) returns to the ring in defense of his newest trophies against dangerous undefeated two-time champion Omar “El Huracan” Narvaez (35-0-2, 19 KOs) in scheduled 12 or less rounds affair at the WaMu Theater adjacent to Madision Square Garden on Saturday at 10:30 PM ET on HBO.

DONAIRE HIGH ON EVERYONE’S TOP TEN ‘POUND FOR POUND’ LIST

Bursting on the scene with a sensational one punch knockout win over then undefeated Vic Darchinyin (W KO 5), Nonito Donaire’s slaying of the “Raging Bull” propelled his status as challenger to champion overnight. Conventional wisdom led one to believe that a win of such magnitude would have opened the doors to more marquee fights and lucrative pay days. However that wasn’t the case. In a victory that was supposed to elevate him into the upper stratosphere of the sport, Nonito was instead fighting against mostly over matched fighters on “small time” independent Top Rank PPV cards. But by knocking out 9 of his last 10 opponents in stellar fashion, the “suits” at the major networks (and the public) are finally starting to take notice to the uniquely violent “T.V. friendly” skills of Donaire. Nonito’s highlights during that debauchery 10 fight span include breaking the face and smashing the nose of rough brawler Volodymyr Sydorenko (W KO 4) and starching former two-division belt holder Fernando Montiel with an electrifying second round one-punch knockout. SILENT FISTIC STORM

Albeit a non-household name, Omar Andres Narvaez has campaigned unbeaten for over eleven years against stiff opposition in two very talent deep divisions. Omar’s moving up in weight again and despite this being his first fight at the bantamweight (118 lbs) limit; Narvaez  boasts two major worlds titles in two weight classes and from such accolade; has truly merited the status of being labeled as a “worthy” contender to gain another championship. Now in his seemingly most difficult assignment to date, Omar will look to call upon his feverishly furious tempo of artistic violence to overcome his vastly skilled nemesis.

SHOBOX JOINT

Now in its tenth year of delivering “the goods” to the masses, Showtime’s critically acclaim series “Shobox” kicks off the weekend with an potentially explosive double header. In the main event, unbeaten heavy-handed super middleweight (168) prospects Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez and Will Rosinski clash in a “someone’s O gotta go” dance slated for 10 rounds. Underneath, light-handed but effective jr. welterweight (140) “up and comer” Gabriel “Tito” Bracero (17-0, 3 KOs) engages unheralded scrapper Daniel “The Hudson Valley Kid” Sostre (11-4-1, 4 KOs) in a proposed 10 rounds of throw down. Coverage from the Foxwoods Resort in Mashantucket, Connecticut begins Friday at 11 PM ET on Showtime.
