LOOKING AT PAC-MARQUEZ & MAYWEATHER-MARQUEZ

San Francisco, CA– With just about everybody wanting Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao to meet, let’s take a realistic look at the potential super fight between boxing’s only two genuine icons by looking at a common opponent, Juan Manual Marquez, a Mexican National now living in Southern California. First up, I don’t think that the third fight between Pacquiao and Marquez, set for November 12 on HBO PPV, is a match that will be competitive. In the minds of many, although Manny dropped Marquez thrice in their first fight (Draw 12) and once in their second tango (won by Pacman), there are many people that feel that outside of the knockdowns Marquez owned Pacquiao.

LOOKING BACK AT BOTH PACQUIAO-MARQUEZ FIGHTS

Mayweather vs. Arturo Gatti

If we look at the first fight, Pac dropped Marquez three times in round one. But from that point on, Marquez controlled Pacquiao like a pimp controls a member of his stable. Looking at the fight recently, it is hard to give Pacquiao any rounds convincingly after round two. In all fairness to Pacquiao, one judge gaffed in his final tabulation, that if his post fight comments were to be considered credible, Pac would have won by a point, thus he would have had been awarded a split decision. But if you put this judge’s comments aside, Pacquiao, a one-armed bandit (left cross) at the time he first faced Juan Manuel, lost more rounds than Marquez did period. In the rematch, according to Hector Martinez, a former two-time amateur champion, one who can break down a boxing match in an objective and concise manner like few others.

HECTOR MARTINEZ KNOWS BOXING IN & OUT!

“When it came down to the second fight with Marquez, it was Marquez who fought his fight more than Manny fought his, that’s why I had Marquez winning by two points. Marquez was out boxing Manny in the middle of the ring, a lot more than Manny was roughing him up on the ropes.

Marquez’s counterpunching was the determining factor, not Manny’s aggression, for which he lacked for the most part. I think the two judges that went for Pacquiao, they were caught up in the Manny-mania, and they weren’t watching the events unfolding in front of them. Had they been, Marquez would have won, but he was fighting a far more popular fighter in Manny, who was also the ‘house fighter, and the Las Vegas judges rarely go against that grain unless the whipping is so convincing that they can’t do anything else. Marquez-Pac II was a fight that was won by the technical advantages of Marquez, not the bombs of Manny, who missed more often than not.”

THEY WERE BOTH CLOSE FIGHTS

Both Pacquiao-Marquez fights were close, and while there are many experts that thought Marquez won both of them, the Manny-maniacs, or Pacnuts as I have labeled them, they are so drawn to their guy that they can’t watch a Pac fight with true objectivity. Just like when Pacquiao tried to quit against the late Agapito Sanchez, the Pacnuts say he wasn’t, when he obviously was. This is called being in denial, something 99% of Filipinos that watch boxing, 90% of which lack any boxing knowledge or acumen outside of the Pacman’s career. When I asked a group of Filipino fans recently to name the top five boxers from the Philippines, other than Manny, one of then said “Flash” Elorde. This was the only person polled that was over 40. To show you that Pac fans are not true boxing fans, they couldn’t name, except for the lone Elorde voter, Luisito Espinosa, Andy Gannigan, Rolondo Naverette, hell, even the recent multi-weight division champion Gerry Penalosa, not even Gerry was mentioned, which just goes to prove their lack of real boxing knowledge among the vast majority of Filipinos, who outside of Manny know nothing about the history of Philippine boxing.

SAME LACK OF KNOWLEDGE THINKS MANNY WILL SLAY FLOYD!

While Pacquiao was involved in two life and death struggles with Juan Manuel Marquez, Floyd rolled over the Mexican for 12 rounds with such ease that it looked like a “gym workout,” and not the two wars Manny had with Juan. Now the Manny-fanatics, they are saying that Pac-Marquez will be a test and determine who is the better of the two gladiators, when in reality it is not even a fair fight on paper. For whether you think, like many, feel that Manny has used an assortment of Performance Enhancing Drugs, whether he has not, it is not the question here. Instead we go back to reality, and that is Manny, drug use or not, is a much bigger fighter physically today than Marquez. The muscle mass, arms, legs, even Manny’s skull looks larger than it was when Manny and Juan last fought.

ALSO LIKE THE “OLD” MEXICAN HEAVYWEIGHT JOKE!

“What is a Mexican heavyweight?” Answer used to be, “A fat middleweight.” Marquez has not been able to put on mass like Pacquiao, thus he will be at a severe disadvantage come November 12, even he has superior boxing (counterpunching) skills. In other words, just like Pac’s last three fights, Marquez anywhere above 140 lbs, is at such disadvantage that he likely end up being lunchmeat for fiery Filipino.

FLOYD OUTCLASSED MARQUEZ WITH A 12-ROUND SHUTOUT

When Floyd Mayweather and Marquez faced off in 2010, Floyd came in a few pounds heavier than the contracted weight of 144 lbs, and had to pay Marquez for his excessive weight, Pac fans said, “Mayweather was cheating.” So Manny demanded for their proposed fight in March 2010, that Floyd pay him $1 million dollars for every pound over 147, and Floyd agreed to Manny’s demands. Then Floyd counters with the “Random Drug” testing and Pacquiao flat out refused the testing mode, thus the fight never happened. It was OK for Manny to make a demand of Floyd, but when Mayweather wanted drug testing, Manny would have no part of it.

FLOYD OUTCLASSED MARQUEZ WITH A 12-ROUND SHUTOUT II

The fight between Marquez and Mayweather was as one-sided as a high school football team facing the Super Bowl champs of the NFL, as they weren’t even in the same stratosphere, let alone league or boxing ring. To put it bluntly, Manny will likely get schooled by Mayweather, who is by far a better counterpuncher, in addition to being much, much faster than Marquez. That is why most of us that are not caught up in the hype see Mayweather pitch a near shutout over Pacquiao, for if he becomes aggressive, Floyd will punch holes in him like a piece of binder paper. This will be the end of Pacquiao, and Filipinos around the world will sink into a state of depression never before seen in their country.
