Chris “The Murderer” Benoit

FROM WRESTLING SUPERSTAR TO KILLER OF WIFE, SON, SELF!

San Francisco, CA– Writing for me is not difficult. But when the murder of a 10-year old boy and his mother occurs, and his father, world renowned professional wrestler Chis Benoit was the perpetrator, the story takes on added emotion that you wouldn’t expect from this former San Francisco Policeman. The murder of Nancy and Daniel Benoit was the most horrific incident to ever evolve from the seedy world that is professional wrestling. This story begins in Canada where Benoit was both born and learned to wrestle. On weekends, a teenage Benoit would take a two hour plus bus ride to train and “learn” professional wrestling from one of the industry’s great teachers Stu Hart. He was the father of wrestling superstars Brett “The Hitman” Hart and the late Owen Hart, the wrestler who plummeted to death when a cable he was descending from the rafters of an arena to the ring, snapped and Owen fell a couple hundred feet before hitting a ring turnbuckle.

STU HART’S BASEMENT WAS KNOWN AS “THE DUNGEON”

Many guys would look to the now deceased Stu Hart as both a mentor and teacher. But unlike the choreographed wrestling we see on TV and at “house” shows (live events), old man Hart was a bit of a sadist who would punish his pupils to the point where a lot more left and never returned after one session in “The Dungeon” with Stu. Benoit, was not one of them. Ever since he was in his early teens, all Chris wanted to do was to become a professional wrestler. Small compared to most, before he started using steroids, Chris was 5’9 and 180 lbs. In his early years, Chris was wrestling for Stu Hart’s “Stampede Wrestling” promotion all round Canada. Although a good worker and wrestler, before steroids, Benoit couldn’t make the big leagues as he was simply too small.

EDDIE GUERRERO, RAY MYSTERIO, BENOIT & OTHER SMALLER GUYS BEGAN TO BREAK IN

After a humiliating stint in Japan, Chris, now in his early 20′s, was doing slave like chores for the wrestling veterans, stuff like washing their clothes, bringing them food. Although Benoit would say the experience helped make him a man, truth be told nobody deserves the treatment that Japanese wrestlers would force upon North American rookies who went to Japan to hone their act and get additional experience.

DRUGS IN WRESTLING? WHO’D A THOUGHT IT?

Although the use of steroids in professional wrestling primarily began in the 1970s with Billy “Superstar” Graham, Earl Maynard, a former Mr. Universe, and Ken Patera, a United States Olympic power lifter, steroids have been around since the 50s. Some of you might remember the 1964 or 1968 Olympics, when Russian women looked so big and strong from the use of steroids, that they took on male-like appearances. The running joke in Mexico City in 1968 was that some of the Russian woman had a five o’clock shadow, which we men know as a need to shave our facial features.

BENOIT HAD SEVERAL “DRUG COCKTAILS”

Reportedly, Ecstasy was Benoit’s drug of choice to get high on. While people were able to confirm this, they also stated that Nancy Benoit, a wrestling valet dubbed “Woman,” had issues with booze and prescription pills as well. Chris’ favorite version of an energy drink was a combination of Goody’s Headache Powder, Red Bull energy drink and “Yellow Jackets,” an Ephedra based diet drug that was banned by the Food & Drug Administration. According to author Irvin Muchnick, who penned the book, “Chris & Nancy,” Benoit was able to get Yellow Jacket “knock offs” that when combined with the aforementioned, Chris said made him feel like “Superman.”

BENOIT’S LIFE BEGAN TO CRUMBLE WHEN EDDIE GUERRERO DIED!

Eddie Guerrero

In November 2005, Eddie Guerrero, a second generation wrestler of Mexican descent, was found on the floor of his Minneapolis hotel room by his brother-like nephew Chavo Guerrero. The cause of death for the 38-year old WWE superstar was determined to be a massive heart attack. While the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) tried to pin the blame on Eddie’s history of boozing and using illegal drugs, Steroids and HGH (Human Growth Hormone) were likely to have played a far more significant role in Eddie’s death. Like Benoit, sans steroids and the like, Eddie was just too small to make it in Vince McMahon’s WWE, seeing Vince never denied using steroids himself, preferred the huge physique over the wrestlers of prior generations, most of whom looked more like your uncle Ray, guys with non-chiseled bodies. But the skyrocketing popularity of another steroid user, Hulk Hogan, convinced McMahon that big was better and he took the entire wrestling industry in that direction.

WITH EDDIE DEAD, CHAVO CALLED BENOIT BEFORE 911

Benoit and Eddie Guerrero were best friends. When Chavo called him and told him Eddie was dead, Benoit rushed to the room and began a tradition that was started by the late Bruiser Brody, this when David Von Erich overdosed and died in Japan as a result of sleeping pills. What he and Chavo did was flush down the toilet Eddie’s huge stash of Stanozol (Winstrol) which is an anabolic steroid that he had obtained for an upcoming tour of Europe. An autopsy revealed Eddie had a number of enlarged internal organs, including his heart, which was a direct result of steroid and HGH use.

WEDNESDAY: PART II & THE DEADLY WEEKEND THAT CHRIS WENT NUTS!

Vince McMahon circa 53 Years Old!

Often thought of as withdrawn, moody, and to some unsocial, Benoit sunk into an incredible state of depression after Eddie’s death, something he would suffer from until the weekend of June 23-24 2007, when he killed his wife, son, this before hanging himself in his basement gym at home. We will go into the amount of Chris’s steroids use, how the WWE covered it up after he tested positive twice, and how the Vince McMahon run corporation honored Benoit, this after knowing he was a double-murderer and had killed himself.
