COTTO & THE WBO GIVING THE DEAD SOME RESPECT

Cotto’s promotional team and the WBO honored a young hot prospect that died because of street violence, Juan “El Puma” Gonzalez during the fight card called Electrizante that was held June 15 in Catano, P.R, where we had a chance to see one of Cotto’s top prospects Jayson “Maravilla” Velez go ten hard rounds vs. Carlos Valcarcel, a fight where Velez got the deserved decision.

BORICUA INVASION WAS MIGHTY SUCCESSFUL

Team P.R last fought during the Puerto Rican day parade weekend (June 10-12) and it was a success, as all the fighters won in a two-night fight card called Boricua Invasion I & II held at the Roseland Ball Room in New York City. On Friday, August 19, the team goes at it again but this time at home. The card is named “Under Fire” and it will be held at auditorium Juan Pachin Vicens in Ponce P.R by Universal Promotions, whose President Javier Butillo said “Our duty is to provide the best boxing possible.” This time Cesar Seda Jr. will be seeing action for the first time since he went to Argentina to try and strip Omar Andres Narvaez of his WBO 112 lb. title, but ended up losing via decision.

CAN SEDA COMEBACK AFTER FAILED TITLE BID?

Seda will be trying to win big this time when he faces Cuban Olympic Gold medalist Yan Barthelemy, also that night Eliezer” Waa” Gonzalez will be fighting hard hitting Jeffrey Acevedo. Gonzalez knows Acevedo is surely his toughest test to date and he says he is ready. Sizzling prospect Jose Pedraza, one of Di Bella Entertainments, Shaw Productions and Universal Promotion’s high hopes, as he faces Javier Ramos.

READY FOR “BARE KNUCKLES?”

P.R. Boxing keeps the action going too this month. They started this year off with a fight card named “A Puno Limpio” (Bare Knuckles) in which they go every first Friday of the month to different cities through out the Island giving P.R.’s young talent an opportunity to stay active and make a name for themselves. They already have been to Caguas, San Juan, Toa Baja, Fajardo and on August 5 they did their fifth edition at the Coliseum Mario Quijote Morales in Guaynabo P.R. That night young star Jonathan ”Bomba” Gonzalez was in action. Promoter Ivan Rivera of P.R Best Boxing said, “It’s important to keep these young prospects active as much as possible in order for them to develope.
