"Chinny" Mikey Garcia

“Chinny” Mikey Garcia

MIKEY GARCIA SHIP HAS LEAKS!

San Francisco, CA– Let’s start this off with a fact: Mikey Garcia (34-0, 28 KOs) has a “chin” issue! After being dropped by feather fisted Rocky Martinez in his last fight in which he garnered the WBO 130 lb. crown, and then having his knees buckled by Juan Carlos Burgos on Saturday, another man’s whose power cannot by any means be confused with Earnie Shavers, the writing is on the wall. Sooner, more likely than later, Mikey Garcia is getting knocked out!

GAMBOA HAS BEEN DOWN AS WELL

There is ridiculous talk of Garcia vs. Yuri Gamboa, the sidelined unbeaten Cuban sensation whose reputation has been sullied seeing Performance Enhancing Drugs were supposedly mailed to his home, at 135 lbs. later this year. Although the unbeaten Gamboa is not yet 14 karat gold, he appears to be a tad better and more explosive than Garcia who thus far looks like Gold electroplate.

SAME FATE AS BRONER PREDICTED

For the life of me I can’t understand why these guys are not staying at natural weights, thus jumping divisions as did Adrien Broner, who got licked like a stamp by Marcos Maidana in late 2013. Two years ago Broner was fighting at 135 lbs. If Mikey moves up, he’s going down. He’d be smart to fight a slew of Latins and Mexicans, ones he knows he can beat, in their hometowns, seeing he has no real following of his own.

SOME FANS DIDN’T KNOW HBO HAD BOXING ON!

When I asked Sunday morning what a few pundits thought about Garcia, most didn’t even know (or care) if he fought Saturday night or not. Like one Mexican said, “He isn’t real popular south of the border, or even in California for that matter.” Burgos was the kind of guy you sprarkled against. And while Garcia won comfortably on points, his chin indicates he is not long for the uppr echelon of professional boxing.

BRYANT JENNINGS A THREAT?

Historian Ronald Marshall says that unbeaten heavyweight Bryant Jennings (18-0, 10 KOs) cannot beat the best at heavyweight. While he was praised by some for his Saturday win over previously undefeated Artur Szpilka (16-1, 12 KOs), there are a host of guys that he will have to beat before Jennings can be portrayed as the “next” American heavyweight hope.

LAMONT PETERSON “PAPER” IBF CHAMP

Knocked into another time zone by Lucas Matthysse one fight ago, apprently the IBF 140 lb. diadem was not on the line. That being said, Lamont Peterson has gotten more ink in two sentences than his talents and abilities are worth.

GENNADY GOLVKIN FIGHT IN MONACO NOT ON HBO

One of the most popular fighters in 2013 when it came to HBO ratings is Gennady Golovkin (28-0, 25 KOs) the WBA middleweight (160) king, will not be on HBO this Saturday as he defends in Monaco Saturday against Ghana native and Joliet, IL resident Osumanu Adama (22-3, 16 KOs). According to GGG promoter Tom Loeffler, there just isn’t enough room in the ballroom for HBO to set up and they refused to work off somebody elses TV feed.

GGG HAS THREE HBO DATES IN 2014

According to Loeffler, who appaered in the boxing hour of “Ring Talk Worldwide” Sunday morning, GGG will fight thrice more this year all on HBO. And Loeffler restated what Golovkin himself said on my show a few months ago, “I will fight and beat Floyd Mayweather at 154 lbs.” We can’t even get Floyd in with a smaller Manny Pacquiao, you think he would take on Golvkin? Not a snowballs chance in hell!
