San Francisco, CA– When it comes to female fist-fighting, the sport, although there are more women boxing today, the “superstars” of women’s boxing is few and far between. At one point, Lucia Rijker, the unbeaten 17-0, 14 KOs) female who reportedly lost one fight, that being to a man in a mixed-match, was supposed to fight Christy Martin (49-5-3, 31 KOs) with each fighter getting $500,000 each. If I remember things correctly, Martin, who would have been the underdog, declined the offer.
HOLM HAS BUILT QUITE A FOLLOWING
Although she has lost twice, most recently a KO 7 (December 2011) to Anne Sophie Mathis (27-1, 26 KOs), Holly “Double H” Holm has sold out arenas in and around Albuquerque, NM both as a boxer and as an MMA fighter. The loss to the “rugged” Frenchwoman was devastating to Holm, but instead of lining up a slew of stiffs to fight, Holly told promoter Lenny Fresquez that she wanted to face Mathis again. The rematch is set for June 15 in Albuquerque.

The French love Mathis, much like New Mexican’s adore Holly Holm. She can crack with both hands, work the body, take a punch, in Spanish she is “un mala mujer” or one bad woman!
HOLM WILL NEED TO BOX THROUGHOUT!
Left-handed Holm has watched the film of her first fight with Mathis and thinks she can reverse the outcome of the first encounter. With model-like looks, I’ve seen Holly dig down and win early on in her professional tenure. Holly has went 2-0, 2 KOs in MMA and 1-0, 1 KO kickboxing. In order to win the June 15 rematch, southpaw Holly will need to box throughout, keep Mathis on the outside with her right jab and keeping her right foot outside of Mathis’ left foot and her orthodox stance.
PERFECT MATCH FOR INTERNET
I think that promoter Fresquez should have aired this card on an Internet only Pay Per View card, for the French are quite interested in the fight seeing the amount of French press. I also think there is a limited market that would watch a female fight of this magnitude on the Internet here in the United States.
